Food waste remains a pressing issue across the European Union, with over 59 million tonnes of food wasted annually—equivalent to 132 kg per person. Households contribute the most, generating 54% of the total food waste, mainly from vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy, and cereals. Meanwhile, more than 42 million people across Europe struggle to afford a quality meal every second day.
At InclusiGardens, we believe that small, everyday actions can lead to significant change. That is why we are excited to announce that we are actively working on our first project result—a Zero-Waste E-Cookbook. This resource will help individuals, families, and communities rethink food consumption, reduce waste, and adopt more sustainable cooking practices.
By cutting food waste by 30%, a four-person household could save up to €400 per year, while also reducing environmental impact. With food waste accounting for 16% of greenhouse gas emissions from the EU food system, taking action at home can contribute to broader sustainability goals. As we prepare for the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste on 29 September, InclusiGardens invites you to join us in making the most of every ingredient. Stay tuned for updates on the Zero-Waste E-Cookbook, which will be freely available to support a more sustainable and inclusive food culture.
